Cash Only

I must say. Cash only (okay, debit) works! I mentioned earlier that I took my main credit card out of my wallet. Phew. And while I've kept my Shell card in, I've only used it ONCE to get gas. That's IT. Normally I'd be putting everything on there (food and household purchases), but I haven't cracked once in the past few weeks. This is big! It's really kept me aware of what I have to spend, and I've been more diligent with my purchases (mostly). I think it would be even better for me though, to use actual cash. This is something I'll have to think about trying next month.

So all in all, my credit cards have been gathering dust, and it's nice. And they'll be back to zero in just a week! I'm so grateful that I was able to get them paid off (or will) without any finance charges. And next time I move, I just hope I have a little more money in the bank! Not that I plan on moving anytime soon… it's a huge hassle.

  1. Hi, I'm a new reader. This is something that I do too. It seems to help me a lot and I pay more attention to where my money is going.

  2. This is great!

Before I began taking stock of my spending and really focusing on how I was spending money, I blew through cash, so I do understand the hesitation people feel. But if you withdraw cash and tell yourself, "Ok, once this runs out, you're out. No more spending," it really keeps you aware of the money you have and spend. Or even if you're using a debit card, being aware of your money means that you won't be as quick to pull out your card. I cut up my last credit card months ago, and I love this system.
